A man who climbed up a tree in Long Beach on Sunday has refused to come down for more than 10 hours, authorities said.
Police were called to the tree near Orange Avenue and 3rd Street about 11 a.m. on reports that a "suspicious male adult" was taking refuge in a tree, Long Beach Police spokeswoman Sgt. Megan Zabel said.
The man, who is not wanted for a crime, "appears to be in an altered mental state," Zabel said.
Police deployed a mental evaluation team as well as the Long Beach Fire Department in an effort to persuade the man to come down, Zabel said.
"We are monitoring him from a distance with hopes that when he comes down out of the tree on his own, we can evaluate him," Zabel said.
He's not believed to pose a threat to himself or the community, authorities said.
