Clippers come back from 19-point deficit to beat Trail Blazers, 126-122

The Clippers pulled off an impressive come-from-behind win Wednesday in the second leg of a back-to-back, scoring 41 points in the fourth quarter and beating the Portland Trail Blazers, 126-122.

The Trail Blazers led as many as 19 points midway through the second quarter, then the Clippers clawed their way back into the game in the second half, taking their first lead after J.J. Redick made a three-pointer with just under seven minutes left to put the Clippers up, 100-98.

The Clippers then continued a 16-2 run to take an eight-point lead, 108-100 with 4 minutes and 22 seconds left. With 8.5 seconds left and the Clippers up, 124-119, C.J. McCollum made a three-pointer to cut the Trail Blazers' deficit to two. Chris Paul was then fouled on the Clippers' next possession and made both free throws to seal the win for the Clippers.

It was the Clippers' biggest comeback victory this season.

The Clippers made 15 of 28 three-pointers and had a slight advantage over the Trail Blazers from the field, 53.5% to 50.6%. The Clippers had only six turnovers, whlie the Trail Blazers had nine.

Paul led the Clippers with a season-high 41 points, 17 assists and only one turnover. Redick had 25 points and eight rebounds. Blake Griffin had 24 points on 10-for-18 shooting, including making both of his three-point attempts. He also had seven rebounds and eight assists.

LaMarcus Aldridge led the Trail Blazers with 29 points and added six rebounds.

The Clippers' run seemed to be fueled by a skirmish in the third quarter, after Chris Kaman shoved Paul out of bounds. Aldridge then put a hand on Glen Davis, who fell to the ground. Kaman was given a flagrant foul, but no one was ejected.

Wednesday's game was the opposite from what happened the night earlier, when the Clippers blew a 17-point lead to lose to the Golden State Warriors, 110-106. That loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for the Clippers.

With the win, the Clippers improved to 50-26, remaining in fifth place in the Western Conference. The Trail Blazers, who remain in fourth place, fell to 48-26 and missed a chance to clinch the Northwest Division title. If the Clippers finish the season with a better record than the Trail Blazers, they will have home-court advantage even if the Trail Blazers have a guaranteed top-four seed for winning their division. In a tie, the Trail Blazers would get the higher seeding if they end up winning their division.

The Clippers, 3-1 in their season series against Portland, travel to Denver to face the  Nuggets on Saturday.
