The Lakers were swept in their season series by the worst team in the NBA, falling 101-94 to the 30th-place New York Knicks.
The Knicks also beat the Lakers in early February.
New York, playing without All-Star Carmelo Anthony (knee), scored 35 points in the second quarter to take the lead. The Lakers made a late run, but trailed for the entire second half.
Tim Hardaway Jr. had a big night, scoring 22 points off the bench in 30 minutes, hitting five of seven three-point shots to lead all scorers.
Andrea Bargnani added 16 for the Knicks, who shot 46.8% from the field and 50% (9 of 18) from three-point range. Alexey Shved finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, Langston Galloway had 12 points and Cleanthony Early 11.
Jordan Hill led the Lakers with 19 points, 10 rebounds and a late three-pointer that got the Lakers to within four with 24.2 seconds left.
Jeremy Lin scored 14 and had seven assists. Jordan Clarkson, Wayne Ellington and Carlos Boozer each added 11 points. Tarik Black fouled out with a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds). Ed Davis scored seven with 10 boards.
Rookie Jabari Brown, making his first NBA appearance after signing a 10-day contract with the Lakers earlier in the week, scored seven points in 17 minutes.
The Lakers shot 42.2% from the field and 27.8% (5 of 18) from three-point range. The Knicks converted 36 field goals, of which 27 were assisted. The Lakers had 18 assists on 38 makes. They also held a 51-33 rebounding advantage, including 15-4 on the offensive glass.
With the loss, the Lakers fall to 17-47. They'll next host the Atlanta Hawks (50-14) on Sunday at Staples Center. The Knicks (13-51) travel north to visit the Golden State Warriors (51-12) on Saturday.
Knicks 80, Lakers 74 (end of third quarter)
The Knicks continued to push ahead of the Lakers, extending their lead to as many as 12 points. The Lakers were able to whittle their deficit to six by the end of the third quarter by scoring the final five points of period.
Tim Hardaway Jr. is the game's leading scorer with 17 points on six-of-nine shooting, making five three-pointers. The Knicks also got 13 apiece from Andrea Bargnani and Alexey Shved.
New York shot 50% from the field and 53.3% from three-point range (8 of 15). The Knicks only missed one free throw in 11 attempts.
Jordan Hill leads the Lakers with 14 points. Jeremy Lin scored 12 with six assists. Tarik Black is nearing a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds in only 19 minutes.
The Lakers shot 44.8% from the field and 22.2% from behind the arc (2 of 9). While the Lakers attempted 19 free throws, they only converted 12 (63.2%).
Knicks 60, Lakers 54 (halftime)
The Knicks scored 35 points in the second quarter to take a six-point halftime lead.
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 12 points, hitting all four of his three-point shots. Andrea Bargnani added 11 points, while Alexey Shved and Langston Galloway both scored 10.
The Lakers were led by Jordan Hill with 11 points. Tarik Black scored eight before picking up his third foul.
Jabari Brown, Wayne Ellington and Carlos Boozer each scored seven for the Lakers, who shot 49% from the field and 25% (1 of 4) from three-point range with four turnovers.
The Knicks shot 53.7% and 45.5% (6 of 11), respectively, with just three miscues.
Lakers 28, Knicks 25 (end of first quarter)
Rookie Jabari Brown made his NBA debut, scoring three points in three minutes for the Lakers. Brown's first point came at the free-throw line. Moments later he hit a long jumper from the right wing.
Meanwhile, the Lakers took a three-point lead into the second quarter.
Lakers center Jordan Hill has seven points while Tarik Black and Jeremy Lin each have six for the Lakers, who are shooting 52.2% from the field.
Jordan Clarkson went to the bench early after two quick fouls, playing four minutes without a point on three shots.
Alexey Shved was high-man for the Knicks with six points, three rebounds and two assists in 10 minutes. New York is shooting 41.7% from the field.
Pregame
The Lakers (17-46) can build a two-game winning streak on Friday night, hosting the New York Knicks (12-51) at Staples Center.
New York is without Carmelo Anthony (knee), Jose Calderon (Achilles) and Quincy Acy (personal reasons), while Tim Hardaway Jr. is questionable with a back issue.
For the Lakers, Nick Young is out with a knee injury while Ronnie Price (elbow), Kobe Bryant (shoulder), Julius Randle (knee) and Steve Nash (back) are all done for the season.
