"Oh my God."
"Unbelievable."
"Phenomenal."
Those were just a few of the reactions from people watching the performance Tuesday night of 6-foot-5 senior Tyler Dorsey of Pasadena Maranatha.
Whether it was because the game was for first place in the Olympic League or he was playing against USC-bound Bennie Boatwright, Dorsey turned in a performance for the ages. He scored 48 points, including 22 in the fourth quarter, to rally Maranatha to an 83-74 victory over Village Christian. He also had 14 rebounds. Not bad for someone who came in averaging 34.0 points per game and who just committed to Oregon.
"To come into this house with Bennie Boatwright and Jon Shaw as coach and do what he did tonight was phenomenal," Maranatha Coach Tim Tucker said. "I turned into a fan in the fourth quarter."
Maranatha (12-8 overall, 5-0 league play) trailed, 63-59, going into the fourth quarter. Then Dorsey just took over. He had a four-point play. He had two three-point plays. He made threes. He made drives. He made free throws.
He left Village Christian fans in awe. Village Christian (20-6, 4-2) certainly played well enough to win. Boatwright had 23 points and so did Jerrick Ahnmisi, who made seven threes. There were 23 threes in the game. Tey Williams scored 15 points for Maranatha and Sean Romero made four threes.
"In the fourth quarter, I just wanted to close the show," Dorsey said.
And what a show it was.
