Dan Haren, Carl Crawford lead Dodgers to 4-0 win over Padres

The Dodgers have the Big Three in their rotation, right?

Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu are a combined 46-17 with a 2.48 earned-run average. All the Dodgers' other starters going into Wednesday were 23-24 with a 3.91 ERA.

This is potential trouble should the Dodgers make the playoffs, what with most teams now preferring to use four starters.

Only just maybe that's not such a looming problem the way Dan Haren has been going.

Haren threw his best game in more than two months Wednesday, holding the San Diego Padres scoreless on four hits in seven innings of the Dodgers' 4-0 victory before a Dodger Stadium crowd of 45,586.

Haren has actually been on a very nice roll for a while. In his last seven starts, he has gone 5-1 with a 1.69 ERA. That's even better than the 5-1 mark with a 2.84 ERA he put up in his first eight games of the season.

In between those two stretches, of course, came that 3-8, 6.04 ERA run in eight games that caused understandable concern. Haren is no longer the overpowering sort and his margin of error is pretty small if he's not on.

But that hasn't been an issue during his current run. Haren walked only one and struck out five in his seven innings, raising his season record to 13-10 with a 3.99 ERA.

The Dodgers supported Haren with a 12-hit attack, four coming from Carl Crawford. Three of his hits were doubles, and he drove in two runs.

Juan Uribe drove in the first run off the Dodgers' old buddy Ian Kennedy (10-13) in the second, scoring Crawford after his first double. The Dodgers scored single runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth.

Justin Turner and Uribe each added a pair of hits, and Hanley Ramirez added an RBI. Struggling Yasiel Puig, moved to the leadoff spot, went hitless in four at-bats. Puig is hitting .143 (10 for 70) in his last 19 games.

J.P. Howell pitched a scoreless eighth and Kenley Jansen toss a scoreless ninth.

The Dodgers finish the season 12-7 against the Padres and end their nine-game homestand at 6-3.
