Looking for something definitive on Zack Greinke's sore elbow, based on his start Saturday?
After having his start pushed back two days to give his wonky elbow some additional time, Greinke neither calmed all fears nor raised any new red flags.
With Adrian Gonzalez driving in five runs, Greinke was good enough to pitch the Dodgers to a 7-4 victory over the Mets before a Dodger Stadium crowd of 51,215 that pushed the season attendance mark over the three-million mark.
It's the 28th time the Dodgers have reached the mark, and the 18th time in the last 19 years.
The victory increased the Dodgers' lead in the National League West to 4 1/2 games over the Giants and marked the 13th time in 15 games they have defeated the Mets.
The night did not offer vintage Greinke, nor did he blow up and cause front office panic. Or at least any additional terror.
Greinke went seven innings, and if they seemed something of a struggle, they were ultimately effective enough. He allowed four runs on nine hits -- two of which were homers -- and one walk, striking out four.
He never did retire the side in order, but managed to improve his record to 13-8. Manager Don Mattingly said prior to the game that the Dodgers were more interested in how the elbow responded the day after the game than during it.
Greinke put the Dodgers in a hole in the fourth when he gave up a three-run homer to Juan Lagares, but they answered with two in the bottom of the inning.
Jacob deGrom, making his first start after coming off the disabled list with a sore shoulder, walked Carl Crawford to lead off the bottom of the inning. Crawford stole second and scored on a Gonzalez single.
Matt Kemp singled, and Andre Ethier, getting his first start since Aug. 14, advanced both runners on a groundout. A sacrifice fly by Erisbel Arruebarrena scored Gonzalez to pull the Dodgers within one.
They took the lead the next inning when Greinke singled and Crawford walked again before Gonzalez unloaded a three-run homer. It was the 18th home run of the season for Gonzalez.
After a Lucas Duda solo home run pulled the Mets back within a run, the Dodgers scored two more in the seventh. Miguel Rojas singled, and a Greinke bunt sacrificed him to second.
When Dee Gordon beat out an infield single off the glove of Daniel Murphy, Rojas advanced to third. Pinch-hitter Scott Van Slyke tapped one up the first base line and reliever Josh Edgin fielded it, but hit his leg on the underhand throw to the plate as Rojas scored.
Gonzalez hit a sacrifice fly that scored Gordon and matched his season-high with five RBI.
Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth for the Dodgers to earn his 37th save.
