Two young Amish girls abducted from a roadside near the Canadian border Wednesday night have been found and are safe.

Fannie Miller, 12, and Delia Miller, 6, were taken about 7:20 p.m. on the side of Highway 812 in Oswegatchie, N.Y., according to New York State Police.

The girls went to their family's roadside stand to wait for a customer, who was driving a small white four-door sedan, police said.

Witnesses told police they saw a passenger exit the vehicle, throw something in the back, then get back in before the sedan was driven off. Both girls were gone when the vehicle left, the alert said.

According to ABC News, the girls were dropped off 36 miles away from where they were taken. They walked to the nearest home for help, St. Lawrence County Dist. Atty. Mary Rain said, according to ABC News.

The girls were unharmed, officials said, according to ABC News.

The investigation into their abduction is continuing.

Oswegatchie is a town of about 5,000 people near the St. Lawrence River.
