Tyler Skaggs, Angels fall to Blue Jays, 4-0

KEY MOMENT: Jose Reyes followed fifth-inning singles by Munenori Kawasaski and Josh Tole with a run-scoring single to center field to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead and end their 0-for-25 slump with runners in scoring position over six games. It was the first of four hits for Reyes.

AT THE PLATE: Reyes followed Kawasaki's seventh-inning single with a two-out home run to left field against starter Tyler Skaggs for a 3-0 lead, and Dioner Navarro had a run-scoring single in the sixth against Mike Morin. Shortstop Erick Aybar had two singles for the Angels, who were shut out for only the second time this season.

ON THE MOUND: The Angels scored four runs in 5 1/3 innings against knuckleballer R.A. Dickey on Sept. 11 in Toronto, but they got only one runner to third base in seven innings against him Tuesday night. Dickey (7-8) gave up four hits in seven innings, struck out five and walked one on the way to ending a losing streak at four starts. Skaggs (4-5) gave up three runs and 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings.

ON THE BASES: With the Angels trailing, 1-0, Mike Trout lined a two-out double to left field in the sixth inning and tried to take third base when the ball rolled under Melky Cabrera's glove and to the wall. But Cabrera's throw to third nailed Trout to end the inning.

IN THE FIELD: Reyes flared a third-inning single to right but was gunned down by Kole Calhoun when he overran the bag. Reyes was initially ruled safe, but the call was overturned after an instant-replay review. Second baseman Kawasaki raced into shallow right and made a nice diving catch of Trout's eighth-inning popup.

ROCK THE VOTE: Trout, an All-Star starter, is serving as unofficial campaign manager for teammate Garrett Richards' All-Star bid, urging his 474,000 followers on Twitter numerous times throughout the day to vote for Richards on the "final five" fan ballot. "He's a big team guy, not selfish, and it shows," said Richards, who has shared an apartment or house with Trout since 2010. "You can't ask for any better qualities in a teammate."

ROSTER MOVE: With swingman left-hander Hector Santiago expected to start Thursday in Texas, the Angels recalled reliever Cam Bedrosian from double-A Arkansas and sent utility player Grant Green, who had three at-bats in the last 12 games, to triple-A Salt Lake. Bedrosian had a 14.29 earned-run average in a six-game stint with the Angels in June, but gave up one hit in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday night.

UP NEXT: Left-hander C.J. Wilson (8-6, 4.23 ERA) will oppose Toronto right-hander Marcus Stroman (4-2, 3.44) at Angel Stadium on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. On the air: TV: FS West. Radio: 830.
